This phrase was originated when I was talking with a cerebral palsy and deaf friend of mine at NTID during lunch at a cafeteria. Because I like playing with words, I said to him, "Hey, rather than looking at CP as Cerebral Palsy as a negative term, why don't we just say, 'We are Cool People'". We laughed out loud!! We began to come up with other words to fill in "CP" and continued our laughter. Some of the examples were such as these; "Cool Party"; "Cocoa Puffs"; and "Creative People".
    This was a true breakthrough to overcome the idea that we were not adequate enough to feel okay with ourselves among society. For a long time, I was ashamed to be the person I was made to be. But it took another person with the same "challenge" with a good sense of humor to help me realized that it was okay to be me. And for that, I am truly grateful.
